All this week there have been assemblies led by our Junior Leadership Team and presented by Katie, Year 10 JLT member, asking questions of democracy, student parliament, junior leadership and why is it important to have a student voice.

Here at Aspire our Student Parliament has two representatives from each Form Group who meet once every half term; students are able to suggest ideas to their Form’s representatives to be raised during these meetings. Some previous student ideas that have been passed include Aspirational Day (suggested by a previous Year 11), the Raise My Concern button on the School website and the Equipment/Achievement Point shops.

Our Junior Leadership Team has two representatives per year group, meeting once a fortnight, they propose the student ideas that have been put forward during the Student Parliament meetings. The Junior Leadership Team will then talk to the Senior Leadership Team and express the motions that were passed during the meetings.

Another example of successful motions proposed and passed are our Anti-Bullying Ambassadors and Wellbeing Warriors who also meet every fortnight. Situated every Monday and Friday in the Drama Studio at lunchtime, they are available for students to talk to and raise any concerns they may have, giving our students an opportunity to talk openly with another young person, which they may find easier. This, if need be, can then be passed onto a trusted adult to help with their concerns.

We here at Aspire feel it is important that our students are heard and these assemblies have been held to remind them that they do have a say and can improve our academy for the better by talking to their representatives.
